Cambodia to Introduce Electronic Visa Payments at International Airports from September 1, 2024

Mr. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, announced a significant advancement in the country’s visa processing system. Starting September 1, 2024, foreigners entering Cambodia through its three international airports can now conveniently pay their visa fees electronically. This new system aims to streamline the entry process, eliminating the need for travelers to wait in line to pay in cash, providing a sense of relief to the visitors.

The announcement was made during a social gathering and dining event organized by the Cambodian Oknha Association and the Cambodian Housing Developers Association. Hun Manet highlighted that this new electronic payment system is part of a broader initiative to attract more tourists to Cambodia by reducing the hassle associated with visa procedures.

“This facilitation is for foreign travelers, aimed at attracting tourists to Cambodia and reducing the hassle,” said Mr. Hun Manet.

The electronic payment system will apply to tax payments, visa applications on arrival, and visa applications at embassies or consulates abroad.

“I have now coordinated this work for the Ministry of Economy and Finance to chair the meeting at our three airports from September 1, 2024, including tax payment and application,” the Premier stated.

“Applying for an on-arrival visa and an outside visa, which is already done, uses all the electronics, so tourists and arrivals do not need to use cash anymore.”

Previously, the visa application process required travelers to fill out paper forms at embassies or consulates or to line up to pay in cash upon arrival. The new system will eliminate these steps, making the process entirely electronic.

Mr. Hun Manet praised various ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Interior, General Department of Immigration, General Department of Customs and Excise, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, for their efforts in implementing online visa applications and payments. He emphasized that Cambodian experts developed the new management system, not foreign programs.

Additionally, he advised all stakeholders, especially those at airport gates, to be hospitable to travelers entering Cambodia, as good hospitality is key to attracting more tourists.
